Harold Crosby KF4YDO is Silent Key

Harold Crosby, 81, of Callaway, Fla., passed away on Tuesday, Nov. 4,
2014, at a local hospital. A native of Cranesville, Pa., he had
resided in Bay County since 1975. Harold retired from the USAF after
20 years of service and then worked for Civil Service at the Navy
base. He was a Ham operator and member of the National Association for
Amateur Radio and Panama City Amateur Radio Club.

We remember Harold for being present and helpful for most Panama City ARC events. The only time we did not see Harold was when he was on cross country trips operating his mobile amateur radio station. He was well known on the air waves including the 20 meter Maritime Mobile Net.

Panama City ARC Field Day 2014

The Panama City ARC held their 2014 ARRL Field Day at George Park in Panama City, Florida. It was a 2A club entry under the club's W4RYZ call sign. The principal operator station was in a trailer brought by Marv KK4DKT the club president. Marv's FT-897 fed a 80/40/20/10 Off Center Fed Dipole. A second station was setup at the North end of the park. It was a Icom 7100 brought by N4KGL using a 100 foot doublet fed with a SGC 237 tuner. The Icom 7100 was operated by a battery assisted by a solar panel. Operators included Marv KK4DKT, Bob WB8PAF, Phil N4STC and Greg N4KGL. Don KK4DWC and Harold KF4YDO accepted visitors in the Panama City ARC clubhouse also in the park. Other club members assisted with logging and help with setup. This fun activity demonstrated a emergency capability of amateur radio to provide communications should normal means be unavailable. Contacts were made across the US and Canada including the US Virgin Islands and Puerto Rico.
